DEP to Host Medicine Collection Event at Costco in Tallahassee

The Florida Department of Environmental Protection’s Division of Waste Management is hosting a free medicine collection event, Operation Medicine Cabinet, to encourage citizens to properly dispose of unused or expired medications safely to prevent misuse and protect the environment. Improper disposal of medications, such as flushing them down the toilet, can cause contamination to Florida’s aquatic environment.

The event is sponsored by DEP, the Southern Waste Information eXchange (SWIX), Costco, Leon County Sheriff’s Office,the FAMU College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, the FAMU Institute of Public Health, the Florida State University Center for Biomedical & Toxicological Research (CBTR) and 94.9 TNT.
