PANAMA CITY – The Florida Department of Environmental Protection’s Northwest District is proud to announce that Amiya Baker, a fourth grade student at Cedar Grove Elementary, won first place in the 2015 Earth Day Poster Contest for Bay County.
In celebration of Earth Day, the department invited fourth and fifth grade students from Bay County to creatively illustrate the importance of protecting Florida’s beautiful natural environment: air, water, land and ecosystems.
“I’m excited about this year’s contest and the fantastic job these artists did in capturing the many ways we can protect our environment,” said DEP’s Northwest District Director Shawn Hamilton. “It is reassuring to see that our students are learning so much about science and our environment in school.”
The posters, which represented one or more Earth friendly themes, were judged on originality, neatness and best use of theme. The winning posters are displayed on the Northwest District’s website and additional pictures are available on the department’s Facebook page. There was a separate contest for Escambia and Santa Rosa Counties.
