~DEP informs plant operators on department wastewater regulations~
Today, the Florida Department of Environmental Protection’s Northwest District, in partnership with the Florida Rural Water Association, hosted the third in a series of wastewater training workshops designed to educate plant operators on the department’s wastewater rules. Today’s event was the first in a series of wastewater workshops scheduled across Northwest Florida and is part of the district’s ongoing education and outreach efforts.
“Today’s workshop allowed us to interact directly with the people operating our wastewater facilities and talk about the issues we hope to help them avoid,” said Northwest District Director Shawn Hamilton. “Through education and outreach to the citizens and businesses that the department regulates, noncompliance and environmental harm can be avoided.”
Today’s workshop included more than 20 professional wastewater operators from the Tallahassee area. The series provided more than 50 wastewater professionals with an overview of the department’s regulations and expectations associated with wastewater management. The free workshop also provided continuing education credits to certified wastewater operators.
In addition to the wastewater workshops, the department is also providing help sessions to assist wastewater facilities with the transition to the department’s new electronic data reporting system, EzDMR. Each EzDMR help session is offered by appointment and provides hands-on assistance to operators to enable facilities to submit required data electronically as part of the department’s efforts to improve efficiency and go paperless.
