On January 16, the Florida Department of Environmental Protection recognized Kessler Consulting, Inc. (KCI) for its outstanding recycling efforts.  KCI is a Florida-based environmental consulting firm with 12 employees that recycled more than 86 percent of its solid waste in 2012.   KCI believes that it is important to “walk the talk” when it comes to waste reduction and recycling and is on its way to being a zero-waste company. KCI has reduced its waste stream by more than 72 percent through waste reduction, reuse, recycling, and composting.

As a company in the business of waste resource management and innovative solutions for local governments, corporations, recreational venues, and institutions, the KCI recognizes the importance of practicing what it preaches.

KCI utilizes a number of unique waste reduction efforts in its comprehensive program.  A few of its efforts include:

  • On-site food waste composting – the on-site composting program keeps organics out of the garbage and recycles nutrients back into nature
  • Recycled Content Products – 98 percent of purchases for materials and supplies were made from recycled content material
  •  KCI characterized its waste by sorting and weighing it to plan and expand the program; a service they also offer to businesses and local governments

KCI has been assisting businesses and local and state government to implement the Solid Waste Management Act since its inception in 1988
