Everglades Water Quality Improvements

The state of Florida continues to recognize the importance of the Everglades to the state’s environment, economy and way of life, and remains committed to working with our local, state and federal partners to restore this one-of-a-kind ecosystem.  On June 6, 2012, DEP submitted to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency a revised permit, along with an associated consent order, that authorizes the operation of 57,000 acres of Stormwater Treatment Areas south of Lake Okeechobee.
